I got a haircut this past weekend–all by myself. I haven’t done something for myself by myself in 16 months. Don’t get me wrong, I *adore* spending time with my son and we take him almost everywhere we go (yes, we have gotten sitters and had date nights, too). The last couple haircuts I had, he came with me because he was either small enough to sleep in his bucket seat near me or because I had a friend working at the salon who soaked up baby cuddles while I had my haircut. Moms need a couple hours to themselves sometimes (and I’m good with just a couple hours–I’m not ready to send him away overnight yet [and he wouldn’t deal with it well]!).
So, I have a blog–now what? I know I can write about and post whatever I please, but I have no idea WHAT to write about. I also am just starting out and have no followers, which is both good and bad. It gives me creative license without worrying I’m going to be judged, but if I have no one to write for, what’s the point?
I know the answer to that–the point of me starting a blog is to learn WordPress and eventually Drupal. I know that in my chosen career, learning and becoming fluent in both seems to be the trend, and I don’t want to become stagnant. I’ve always thought it’d be fun to have a blog, anyway, so two birds with one stone??
Mom’s The Nerd? Yep, I’m a mom and I consider myself nerdy, so that’s what I’m going to blog about. I don’t consider myself to the be the expert in all things mommy, especially only 16 months in. I think that each parent needs to find what works best for each child because no two situations are the same. I’ll happily talk about what worked for us–what worked for us probably worked for others, but was probably a complete fail for even more people. Maybe I’ll talk about the baby products that were essential to us having a happy baby. Maybe I’ll talk about the different routines that seem to work for us.
As far as the nerdy side goes, well, I think everyone is a nerd in their own way. Someone might be a nerd about football, someone else about cooking, and so on. I enjoy reading, libraries (I have my MLIS), sci-fi, cooking/baking, I part-time cloth diaper my son, and I used to belly dance. So, my blog posts may relate to those.
Anyway, I guess that’s all for now. I need to read more about WordPress and try to make my blog look interesting. We’ll see what happens–life is busy. I’m sure I’ll tell you why in another post.
